List #9...Home Sweet Home

Hello everyone. Sam here.

I've been thinking a lot recently about home, and how it can mean different things for each of us. For some it's a person, for others a place, and sometimes even just a state of mind. I especially love the song "Home" by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros; it has to be one of my very favorites. There's a quote in the song that's repeated a lot that goes, "Home is wherever I'm with you." I love that, that home can be a person instead of a place. But for me, as of right now at this time in my life, home is a lot of different things. So for this week's list I'm going to tell you all of the things that mean home to me. What are some things that mean home to you?

Things that mean home to Sam
  • My mother's voice
  • The sound of my father getting home from work
  • Crickets chirping and frogs croaking on Summer nights
  • My sisters laughing
  • Candles burning
  • The sun turning the bluffs golden as it sets over town
  • The creek
  • Cousins, lots of cousins
  • Books
  • My bed. I love my bed.
  • Sweet tea
  • Laughing with friends
  • Old music
  • Home movies and pictures
  • Dogs barking
  • The sound of tires on gravel
  • Trees, always trees
  • The way my parents both smell different, but still smell like safety
  • Homemade Ice Cream
  • Hot Summers and Cold Winters
  • The sound of rain against the roof and windows

Take a listen to the song if you haven't heard it before!

I'm sure that someday there will come a time when home will mean a special person to me, but as of right now this is what home is to me and I'm perfectly happy with that. It's people, and places, and things, and most of all love; that's the most important.

Love and Chaos,
Sam
